What to expect:

 

When the girls arrive, they and their parents will need to check in at the registration table, pay the tryout fee (if they have not already done so) and turn in the required forms for tryouts. No one will be allowed to try out until they have paid the tryout fee and turned in all required forms

  • Copy of 2012 USAV card - from USAV website
  • Copy of AAU card, if applicable - from AAU website
  • USAV medical release (notary will be available)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Club Code of Conduct
  • Parents Code of Ethics
  • Evaluation/Tryout Fee - cash or check made out to FSVBC
    ($50 for new players, $30 for returning 10-11 travel season players)

Each girl will be given a t-shirt with a number on the back.

Girls should come to tryouts ready to play. During tryouts, we will use an objective numbering system to see how well each player performs different tasks (such as passing, setting, etc.). We will also be evaluating how well the girls interact with other players and how well they respond to coaches' tips and comments. Athletic ability, skills performance and game tactics are just one part of their evaluations. We also use a number scale to rate coachability, teamwork and positive attitude. These character-based skills are also important for our FSVBC players to exhibit.

After all Tryouts and Make-ups are completed, a committee of coaches and administrators will choose which players to accept on each FSVBC team. This committee is responsible for making the final determination. We have found that this method works by creating a fair system that avoids the biases that may occur when coaches have previous experience with some players and not with others.

The tryouts are a competitive process and the most competitive teams possible will be created. Coaches will contact the players within 48 hours to offer them a position and to confirm their plans to play for FSVBC. Teams will be posted on the website within three days after the final tryouts. To complete the process, you must also accept or decline your position online.
